In November 1995 Eddy Oko-Jaja commenced his first voluntary work when he joined the management committee of Hackney community transport. He also got involved with many other charitable organisations as director or trustee or front line advice and support person. These include:
He helped to build Hackney Community Transport from a mere £200,000 per annum turn over organisation in 1995 to its present status of about £15,000,000 while he was in the management committee and vice chair 1995-1999.

He trained in the Bar of England and Wales to be a Barrister at Inns of Courts School of Law, City University London and is a student member of the Honourable society of Lincoln's Inn.
He is currently completing a PhD (doctor of philosophy) degree by research at the University of Sheffield in Continuing education and training for workers in the transport industry, a study of community transport in London.
